Trip And Field History

The Call to Africa (2017)

Our Journey & Growth (2018–2022)

Salama International, Inc. was formally established in 2018 and immediately began fieldwork in Uganda and Kenya—supporting churches, hosting pastors’ and women’s conferences, and strengthening ministry practices. As needs deepened, the focus expanded from teaching alone to long-term community capacity building. During the COVID-19 crisis, Salama provided emergency food for families and launched income-producing projects, including farming initiatives, women-led businesses, sewing enterprises, fish ponds, and a small hostel—creating employment and restoring dignity for families. By 2022, the ministry completed a permanent two-room school and learning facility in Kakamega County, equipped with electricity, technology, and internet access.

Salama works through local churches to strengthen both spiritual leadership and community well-being. Pastors, women, youth, and community leaders collaborate to identify local needs and serve together—combining discipleship with education, health access, entrepreneurship, and youth development. From church-led outreach and training to community initiatives such as the school, internet learning center, and plans for clean water access, Salama partners with believers to model unity and shared responsibility. Vision-building trips to Kisumu and community service activities continue to inspire young people and leaders to see what is possible when churches and communities grow together in Christ.

This timeline tells the story of how Salama International, Inc. was prayerfully established and steadily shaped through God’s leading—from a single burden for pastors and communities in East Africa to a growing, Christ-centered ministry serving churches, families, and young people through sustainable and compassionate outreach.

After a three-week visit to Nairobi and surrounding communities, and time spent meeting pastors, women’s groups, NGO leaders, and refugees in both Kenya and Tanzania, Salama’s founder returned home with a deep spiritual burden to help strengthen Christ’s laborers in Africa. While the churches were vibrant and faithful, the realities of poverty, hunger, and lack of basic resources were overwhelming. After a month of prayer and fasting in January 2018, God gave clear direction to build a ministry that would demonstrate His love through practical, sustainable solutions.
